A group at USF called Educators in Action (EIA).  This group does community service projects, raise money for organizations, and run special events.  Last year,  EIA ran a mini Minute To Win It with fellow education students and professors.  There were many different games that are on the original  program such as Card Ninja, Bobble Head, Caddy Shack, and Hanky Pankie.  Prizes for Subway and a grand prize of $150 was given away.

I come into work a half an hour early so there is coffee for everyone at work. I usually drink at least two cups of coffee a day while working. I always make coffee the same way, and this is how:

one filter with 5 scoops of coffee

a full pot of cold water (Mr. Coffee coffeemaker, 12 cups)

For my cup of coffee, I usually put two packets of sugar with splash of creamer.

I am currently enrolled in Saturday Morning Art for this semester.  I am teaching first and second grade students.  I will have the biggest class probably having about 25 students, and I will be teaching them for two hours; I teach for 11 weeks.

Thanks to the university, I have tons of experience with elementary students.  I’ve taught 27 second and third grades in a cafeteria.  Dr. Petsch, my adviser, has allowed me to substitute for Saturday Morning Art classes in the past.  I also teach Sunday school for second graders.

I have a lot of ideas I want my students to experience.  We will be working on animation, set design, fashion, silk-screening, and a balloon still-life.

I’ll post updates about how this class and other ones are going in the future.

Getting back into the swing of classes, homework, and work can be stressful.  There is a game that the entire Bonzel Hall is playing.  This game is called Paranoia.

The basic concept of the game is to “kill” the person you are assigned.  You kill them by throwing a marshmallow at them.  If they are hit, they are “dead”.  The “dead” person gives the person they were going to kill to the person who killed them.  The last person alive is the winner.

This is the second year we are doing this game.  Last year, I died on the first day.  Right now it’s day 3 and I’ve only “killed” one person, but I have not been killed.  I’ve been hiding in my studio and covering my face while out in public.  Hopefully I don’t get hit while giving tours today.

Rough draft

I’ve gone through a ton of different styles of how to manage time. This is not one of my most desirable activities of the week, but it needs to be done. I have found what works for me; this does not work for all people.

Budget your money: I know – this sounds odd to place with time management. When I sit down and figure out what I have sent money on in the last week, I run through what is going to happen for the next month. If I have enough money for gifts or personal splurges, I will probably go shopping with friends. I also see if I have been spending money at a particular spot to much.

Open Schedule: This will not always work. I know people who have classes that are six hours apart. The point is to take as much control over your schedule as possible. This semester, most of my open space is in the morning. have class in the afternoon and evening, so I homework in the morning and weekends.

Time for yourself: If you are doing study time for a few hours, take twenty minutes in the middle to unwind. I’ve had some great ideas for lessons, homework, and projects when I’m not totally focused on the assignment at hand. Catch up on some YouTube videos, play minesweeper, read the funnies, something.

Have a time management buddy: Have someone who is good friends with you keep track of what you need to do. I forget things a lot, so my girlfriend will ask me what I’ve done for the day. Yesterday she told me I could not call her to say goodnight until I finished a rough draft of a paper. I figured out a way to get it done, along with other papers I needed to do, and got a rough draft done.

Not all of these are good for everyone, but I do think these are good general rules for everyone when it comes to time management.

Dance Crew:  A group called Venus Fly Trap performed at Fort Wayne Hip Hop Dance.

Children’s Choir: This video shows off the talents of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir.  This choir collaborates with other people from around to the world for concerts.  They also have a YouTube channel which shows the diversity of these talented children.
